Will Carleton Academy earned a MTSS Award for the 2021-2022 School Year

A Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) is a framework that schools across the state participate in, and consists of research-based strategies created to meet the specific needs of children. The goal is to assess and intervene with students early-on so they can keep up with their peers. Some examples of those intervention strategies are as follows:

-Universal screening for all students early in the school year.
-Increasing levels of targeted support for those who are struggling.
-Integrated plans that address students’ academic, behavioral, social and emotional needs.
-A schoolwide approach to student support, with teachers, counselors, psychologists, and other specialists working as a team to assess students and plan interventions.
-Professional Development so staff can provide interventions and monitor progress effectively.
-Family involvement so parents and caregivers can understand the interventions and give support at home.
-Frequent monitoring of students’ progress to help decide if they need more interventions.
-The use of evidence-based strategies at every tier of support.

The Michigan Department of Education has developed a process for identifying schools that demonstrate progress related to meeting the needs of each individual learner through a multi-tiered system of support. We at Will Carleton Academy have been recognized as having strong outcomes through our systems, and have earned a badge in Data Utilization regarding School Behavior.

The Michigan Board of Education Awarded this badge to Will Carleton Academy for their Data Utilization in the 2021-2022 school year

As we move forward into the next school year, we wanted to thank every member of our community for contributing and supporting their students, since without them, there would be no award. We will be looking for that same dedication and support in the new school year, so keep up to date with us on our social media, and check our website for updates.
