May’s Last Hoorah at Will Carleton Academy

The end of the school year is just a week away, and as our students and staff continue to finish strong, we wanted to highlight what has been a wonderful time for our community. As always at Will Carleton Academy, there has been no shortage of ways to get involved this month, with a Bike/Walk to School Day, a spelling bee, a trip to Mackinac, and much more.

May started off with Walk or Bike to School Day, where students and staff walked together to get to school. We would like to thank both the Hillsdale City Police and Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department for keeping us safe, and we had an incredible time outdoors with our community.

Additionally, we saw six of our own Will Carleton Academy students participate in the Classical Academies Annual Spelling Bee. The winner of the spelling bee was Molly Mello, and we would like to thank everyone who represented our school for doing an outstanding job.

Later this month we were also honored with the opportunity to induct three of our students into the National Honors Society. We couldn’t be prouder of the students awarded their certificates, Clemmi Gadwood, Allie Jameson, and Kristi Nieswender. All three students have surpassed expectations and are excellent examples of what a classically educated student is capable of.

In that same week we held an assembly in honor of National Charter School Week. Each class from K-8 performed a skit, poem, or play and showcased the talent within our school. It was a joy to see students from every grade getting in on the fun.

Just recently we sent the 5th grade students and parents on a field trip to Mackinac Island, learning about the state, and enjoying the beauty of the Great Lakes and nature.

Finally, we wrapped up May with a fantastic Spring Concert and Fine Arts Show at school. The students’ talents were on full display with singing, paintings, and more lining the gym walls. We would like to thank Mrs. G, Mr. N, and Miss Hull for their hard work organizing this event.

This month has been nothing short of a wild ride to finish yet another momentous school year at Will Carleton Academy. To our graduating class, congratulations, and to our entire community, we can not thank you enough. From students to staff and parents, every person at our school has put in their best effort to make our school a better place. Keep an eye on our social media for updates, information, and other happenings at the school.
